Quality Assurance Inspector
Location: West Midlands

The Company: Fresh Produce Suppliers and Importers.

The Industry: Food, Fresh Produce, Quality Assurance, Quality

Purpose of the Job:

  • To ensure that all produce entering the company premises meet the required specification.

  • To ensure that all products leaving the premises meet the customers specifications.

  • Maintenance and adherence to all procedures and systems, which meet all legal and customer requirements.

Role Responsibilities:
Intake duties:

  • Carry out quality checks on all incoming produce; identify produce as QC passed, reject or hold. Prioritise quality reports based on organoleptic testing and senior management requests.

  • Collect any samples of mango, avocado and paw paw for trials.

  • Conduct internal audits and checking of systems as required.

  • Attend daily technical and sales meeting and raise daily quality issues.

Pre-departure duties:

  • Conduct pre-departure checks for all customers.

  • Consult technical on any issues raised and seek approval or rejection.

  • Complete any necessary pre-departure returns.

  • Book waste accurately into the waste system.

  • Book samples into the shelf life that are monitored by the admin QA.

  • Preparation of samples for sales.

  • Conduct internal audits and checking of systems as required.

Admin duties:

  • Monitor all shelf-life samples and inform technical of any issues with quality.

  • Book waste accurately into the waste system.

  • Conduct all hot box trials for all arrivals of avocados, mango and paw paw.

  • Conduct dry matter testing on all avocado arrivals.

  • Collate all paperwork from label room, pre-departure inspector and from shelf life daily.

  • Conduct internal audits and checking of systems to include glass and equipment audits including daily site inspections and weekly snagging list.

  • Preparation of samples for sales.

Personal Requirements:

  • Liaise with suppliers and customers professionally at all times.

  • Issue non-conformances to staff as required and expedite corrective action.

  • Carry out all tasks assigned by the Technical Manager/Team Leader in a professional manner.

  • Maintain effective communication with all levels and attend technical and sales meetings as necessary.

  • Work to agreed shift pattern including nights where applicable.

  • Dress in attire prepared for cold conditions and must wear safety footwear.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be flexible with working schedule (shift patterns below).

  • Happy to work in a cold environment.

  • Experience in fresh produce quality control or inspection.

  • Knowledge of quality standards.

  • Familiarity with product specifications and expectations.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Must have a positive can-do attitude.

The Package:
The rate is £9.38 (level 1) which after training (level 2) goes to £9.90.

Additional Information:
Reporting To: Quality Assurance Supervisor and Quality Assurance Manager.
The (rota changes) shift patterns are 6:00 - 14:00, 14:00 - 22:00 and 22:00 - 6:00 (the night shift only comes around every 4-6 months and is for a max 2 weeks at any one time) also 10:00 - 18:00 and 09:00 - 17:00.
