The Company:

My clients are a small animal, long established, RCVS-accredited, independent veterinary practice.

The practice is has four branches in a lovely idyllic towns near Wigan. All 4 surgeries have the most up to date laboratory equipment, their own theatres, US scanners and digital radiography facilities.

My clients main case load consists of Companion Animals, such as dogs and cats - but occasionally they do get the odd rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, small furries and exotics.

Knowledge and experience of exotic pets is welcomed but not essential. There is plenty of opportunity for support and training to provide ongoing development.

My clients two main priorities are:

1- Provide exceptional service to clients and patients.

2- Ensure their staff have everything they need to ensure they can complete their work as effectively as possible.

Consultations are by appointment only, 15 minutes (less for simple procedures. Longer consultations can be arranged by the Veterinary Surgeon as appropriate.

They encourage their vets to work cases up to a high standard, allowing clinical and professional freedom.

They support each other clinically and case discussions are positively encouraged as part of a culture of support and collaboration.

They have an amazing long-serving, hardworking team of nurses and receptionists who are friendly, helpful and well accomplished.

The Job Role details:

An exciting opportunity has arisen at my clients fabulous veterinary practice for a full time veterinary surgeon.

Aim of the role:

My clients position will suit an applicant with some experience, but who has a desire to focus on continued learning in a helpful and caring environment.

The role will include some sole charge work at one of the satellite surgeries, in conjunction with work in the supportive environment at the main site.

At the main site, there are usually two Veterinary Surgeons working at any time (in the mornings one, occasionally two, operating, and one consulting, then afternoon or evening consult sessions. At the branch surgeries consults are until 11 or 12 with operations afterwards. Each Surgery has a Nurse Manager / Head Nurse who looks after day to day affairs with some supervisory staff management, so the Veterinary Surgeons can concentrate on clinical matters.

Our nursing staff are all RVNs and we are keen to see them working as professionals, alongside the assistance they give to the Veterinary Surgeons’ team.

Key Responsibilities:

To be a full time veterinary surgeon.

Duties will include consulting, surgical procedures, minor procedures, client liaison, working up cases, caring for hospitalised animals, treatment plans and visits.

General all-round medical competence is essential and surgically they would expect them to be able to do all routine neutering and simple soft tissue surgery.

5 day working week, Monday to Friday, with days off during the week in lieu of any Saturdays or Sundays worked.

One late night surgery (consults to 8 pm) and the remaining finishes will be between 4 pm and 7pm, with possible free time during the day.

Weekends are on a seven-week rota basis with at least three clear weekends off, two weekends working Saturday morning at one of the smaller branches, and the remaining two working at the main site until 3.00 pm.

The Vets also do one Sunday in seven, 10.00am to 3.00pm.

Work-Life balance is important to all of us and the Vet’s rota reflects that and we consider individual’s needs within the rota.

There are no night duties.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

MUST be a qualified RCVS registered Vet.

MUST bean enthusiastic, confident, team player, cheerful and vet who is willing to get stuck in.

MUST have general all-round medical competence and surgically you will need to be able to do all routine neutering and simple soft tissue surgery.

IDEALLY looking for at least 12 months of UK experience or more, however a confident new graduate would be considered.

IDEALLY would live within 30mins of the practice.

Additional Information:

Holiday allowance is 22 weekdays per calendar year. A Monday to Sunday holiday counts as five days’ holiday. The holiday allowance for the remainder of this year will be calculated pro rata. Any weekends within a holiday are counted as weekends off within the weekend rota.

Duties for Bank Holidays are worked in rotation by agreement and a day off during the week will be given in lieu.

An extra day holiday is granted for every 5 years of continued service.

Membership of BUPA, subscriptions for the Veterinary Defence Society, The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and one other Veterinary related professional body will be paid by the company.

There is also an allowance for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Pension scheme

40hrs per week.

Salary package:

£31,000+ depending upon experience
