The Job Role details:

An exciting opportunity has arisen at my clients fabulous veterinary practice for a full time TB Tester.

This is a job for anyone who loves fresh air, meeting interesting people and working closely with live animals on farm.

Aim of the role:

My clients position would suit an applicant with some experience, but training could be provided.

The role will include some sole charge work.

Key Responsibilities:

To be a full time TB Tester.

Day 1 of the test involves injecting a tiny amount of avian and bovine tuberculin into the skin on the side of the animal’s neck, after clipping the hair and measuring the skin thickness.

Day 2 of the test (3-days later), is reading day. The same neck area is checked for reactions and the skin is re-measured and any lumps found over a certain size make the animal a reactor.

Duties will include consulting, procedures, client liaison, treatment plans and farm visits.

You’ll be expected to be able to deal with people, mainly farmers and DEFRA stakeholders; this means someone who is an effective and confident communicator, able to build good working relationships and sort out issues as they arise.

You’ll need to be able to write up reports and understand issues so that you can make effective decisions when required.

Difficult situations will arise occasionally as part of the job and you’ll need to be the sort of person with the necessary diplomatic and communication skills to sort these out.

4 day working week, Monday to Friday, with days off during the week in lieu of any Saturdays or Sundays worked.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

MUST have a strong work ethic and provide an excellent high standard of clinical care.

MUST be an enthusiastic, confident, team player, cheerful individual who is willing to get stuck in.

MUST be competent in all areas of large / farm animal handling.

MUST have a driving license - You can expect to spend some time travelling around from one test to the next.

MUST possess the right to work in the United Kingdom.

IDEALLY looking for at least 12 months of UK experience or more, however a confident new graduate would be considered.

IDEALLY would live within 30mins of the practice.

Additional Information:

Holiday allowance is 22 weekdays per calendar year.

There is also an allowance for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Pension scheme

40hrs per week.

Salary package:

£28,000 - £33,000 depending upon experience

Company vehicle available.
