A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified hands-on Senior Gardener on a unique 10 acre private estate near Cheltenham.  Passionate horticulturalists will be captivated by this property, and drawn in by the variety, design and charm.

The beautiful family garden consists of ten different ‘character areas’ consisting of a formal olive garden, herbaceous/mixed borders, a fruit orchard, three different character pools: The Bear Pool, The Cave Pool & The Folly Pool linked by a natural stream through a wild garden area.  Manicured lawns and a terraced front lawn frame the distinctive features of this very special garden.  The ideal candidate will have good horticultural knowledge and the ability to apply this to plant selection in respect of each character area.  The work will involve renovation and enhancement of the existing garden and as such, the position would suit a practical, knowledgeable and physically fit horticulturist with a flair for visual garden design and plant identification/selection skills.  You will be responsible for one full-time Under Gardener and will benefit from the assistance of one full-time maintenance person.  As such, you must be a positive and proactive staff manager alongside your drive for the hands-on aspect of gardening.  Experience of staff supervision is therefore a distinct advantage. You should hold an academic horticultural qualification and have considerable gardening/horticultural experience. Good plant identification skills are essential, and propagation skills desired as there is a small greenhouse on site.  Chainsaw certification (CS30/31) is desired though not essential, but you should hold spray certificates (PA1/PA6).  A wide range of garden machinery and equipment is provided, with which you must be experienced and adept as well as having associated knowledge of health and safety.  You must be willing to work in all weather conditions, tidy in your work, proud of developing estate gardens to the highest standard and comfortable managing a small friendly team.  You must be organised and able to manage your daily work schedules effectively, as well as that of your Under Gardener.  Assistance with relocation costs may be provided for the ideal candidate, if necessary.
