A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Gardener to join the small team at a prestigious hotel estate in the Cotswolds, located to the east of Cheltenham.
Having been designed by a seven-time Chelsea Gold Medal Winner, the gardens have been developed as a sequence, each highlighting the quintessential Cotswolds countryside in which the hotel is positioned. Surrounding the historic Cotswold Stone building itself, the garden consists in part of manicured lawns and a wildflower meadow, leading down to the River Eye on one side. A lake and rare bog garden, featuring a 19th century ice house, plays host to some fascinating plant species that provide a unique atmosphere to the character area. A walled garden, herb garden, espalier fruit trees, walled borders and colourful flowers provide the highlight of the rear of the property. The garden has been designed to impress throughout the seasons, and so provides plenty of interest and pleasure for visitors and existing gardeners alike. An additional Gardener is required to assist the Gardener-in-Charge on a full-time permanent basis. The new candidate will assist in the management of the 8-acre grounds under the direction of the Gardener-in-Charge, and will work alongside the original designer and property owner to develop and improve the gardens horticulturally and aesthetically. You must be a passionate gardener with a strong desire to learn, and a personality suited to interaction with interested hotel guests. You must be presentable, with a positive attitude and a good work ethic. The ideal candidate will hold a spray certificate, an academic horticultural qualification and experience in the operation of a range of garden machinery and equipment. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a stunning garden alongside a highly-respected garden designer and horticulturalist, and an excellent opportunity to build upon your existing skills and knowledge.
