The Company / The Role:

Title: Fish Farm Assistant

Reporting to: Farm Manager

We are recruiting for a fantastic fish farming company based in Northern Ireland. They are looking for a Fish Farm Assistant to assist with the following duties;

  • Carrying out day to day animal husbandry on farms, ensuring that the livestock welfare is maintained.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
  • Routine monitoring and logging of information.
  • Daily inspection of stock, identifying and reporting any health issues.
  • Daily feeding of fish with the correct size and quantity of rations.
  • Maintain written log of rations fed to each raceway / section.
  • Daily removal and recording of mortalities per raceway / pond.
  • Daily cleaning of screens – this will take place several times a day depending on climatic conditions.
  • Daily recording of oxygen, temperatures and climatic conditions.
  • Cleaning raceways and equipment.
  • Maintaining hygiene standards throughout the hatchery, fry sheds and farms.
  • Maintenance of equipment and buildings.
  • Grading and sampling fish stocks.
  • Harvesting fish for onward dispatch to customers.
  • Delivering live, dead and processed fish to customers.
  • Delivering and disposing of organic waste to designated receivers.
  • Any other task, within reason, as required.

The Candidate:

  • Physically fit.
  • Neat and well-presented appearance.
  • Conscientious, enthusiastic individual.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Interested in fisheries and livestock management.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Ability to follow and carry out instruction correctly.
  • Keen to undergo training and personal development.
  • Flexibility in working indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Able to work flexible hours as required by livestock management.
  • Could live in accommodation supplied or within a 30-minute commuting time to the farm and have transport to get to work.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience of having worked effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience of working unsupervised and using initiative.

Desirable:

  • Prior fish farming / livestock management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of record keeping.
  • Hold a clean driving license.
