Operations Assistant - Nottingham Woodchip Ltd - NG12 2JS

Position: Operations Assistant Reporting To: Depot and Servicing Manager  Department: Operations 

To work independently to oversee and carry out the entire process of drying woodchip for renewable energy source and maintaining general operation of site.

 Primary Duties 
  • Unload deliveries of woodchip and wood in the round with use of a manitou
  • Oversee chipping process carried out by external parties and report issues to Operations Supervisor
  • Load and unload woodchip onto drying floor and hoppers, in accordance with work schedule 
  • Load dried woodchip onto collect vehicles as required 
  • Clean site and vehicles (such as manitous) as necessary 
  • Complete all delivery and collection paperwork and relevant site checklists (electronic format) 
  • Report any issues at site to line manager promptly  
  • Work alongside landlords where necessary to maintain sites 
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by management, that may be required to support the business needs

Key Responsibilities 
  • Ensure boilers are in operation and report issues to Operations Supervisor
  • Oversee deliveries and collections with drivers
  • checking weighbridge documentation Report any issues at site to line manager promptly  
  • All customer data must be stored securely with strict adherence to all Company policies regarding confidentiality
Meeting Deadlines and Work Pressures
  • Adherence to schedule of delivery and collections, ensuring woodchip is ready in line with appropriate deadlines, which are likely to be stricter during the winter months
 Relevant Contacts
  • Routine liaison with Head Office administration and logistics team for organisation and planning of workload and duties
  • Communication with Operations Supervisors and Lead Engineer Production Manager (Depot and Servicing Manager) for technical and site support and line management requirements
  • Routine liaison with delivery and collection drivers to oversee woodchip movements in line with deadlines and company needs, as well as relevant regulations
  • Contact site landlords as necessary to report and co-ordinate presence for site management issues under their remit

 Complexities and Special Circumstances 
  • The role requires long periods of lone working, with a need for strict adherence to health and safety rules and procedures and a common-sense approach to risk 
  • Due to the nature of the business, workload will be greatly increased in winter periods, with quieter periods during the summer months and the need to adjust to this is paramount


Education and Qualifications (Essential)
  • None

  • Basic IT qualifications 
  • Forklift truck licence 

Skills and Capabilities (Essential)

  • Ability to drive, or learn to drive, forklift trucks and similar vehicles, such as manitous 
  • Able to work under own initiative 
  • Good attention to detail 
  • Effective verbal communicator
  • Organised and with the ability to prioritise

The Package
  • Normal Working hours 8am-5pm Monday - Friday
  • Quarterly bonus potential based on audits 
  • Salary is £18,000 going up to £20,000 after 3 month trial period.
