JOB TITLE: GROWER OF PLANTS - NORTH WEST BASED
Our horticultural specialist client based in the North West of England has a new and exciting job opportunity, not to be missed for a Grower seeking a new career opportunity! Our client is one of the leading plant producers across the UK, supplying Garden Centres and major retailers on a national scale. They are currently looking for a Grower to join their team who will be responsible for day to day involvement in the growing of plants.
The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have the experience and knowledge of growing plants.
You must be extremely responsible and capable of working on your own initiative.
You must have good communication skills and be able to function well within the team.
You must be willing and able to work weekends when required during busy times.
You must be able to commute to the site based in the North West, England.
Day to day involvement of growing plants including; bedding plants, pack bedding and pot bedding.
Filling hanging baskets and patio baskets.
Implementation of reliable growing processes, including pesticide application, irrigation, lighting, temperature, growing media, fertilisation, nutrition, and monitoring the overall health of plants, including biological control.
Being responsible for ensuring the quality of product is maintained throughout the growing process, liaising with the Quality Assurance team to deliver consistently excellent quality at all times.
Following growing schedules by determining schedules with the Grower Manager/Head Grower.
Responsible for troubleshooting crop issues and diagnosis of unknown health or damage problems.
Delegate and set routines for Grower Helpers/Assistants.
Support in the training of Grower Assistants/Helpers.
Help to troubleshoot greenhouse mechanical/environmental control systems.
Manage all paperwork relating to growing numbers, plus maintaining records of crop activities and observations, including pesticide applications and growth records.
You will receive training for the use of production machinery to assist in your understanding of the workings of the machinery to ensure quality at all production stages and reporting any mechanical and Health and Safety issues to your line manager immediately.
You will be expected to identify any potential issues in efficiency and to suggest improvements and new ways of working that can better our processes and or the product.
Mentoring new employees and giving training in company standards and providing guidance on the use of equipment and complying with safety standards.
You must be able to demonstrate the company behaviours and values.
You must have basic numeracy skills and be fluent in English.
Basic Salary between £25k - £35k Depending upon experience.
