It’s quite obvious that everybody has their bad days at work – it’s not uncommon. However if you have the dreaded Sunday evening feeling of not wanting to go back to work, and you find yourself feeling really anxious and almost in tears about going in to work, then you probably have a more serious issue on your hands.
It’s been proven that if an employee is extremely unhappy in their job then it can cause a person to feel very unhappy outside of work, and in serious cases it can even lead to depression. The problem is that once you fall in to the trap it can become even harder to get out.
Below are 10 signs that your job is making you unhappy:
1. You can’t get work out of your head
Evenings and weekends are your own free time to be relaxing.
If you return home from work and you can’t stop thinking about the meeting you had that day or you are worrying about the next time you are due in work – it is bound to have an impact on your personal life.
2. You complain about work - a lot
If you are feeling extremely unhappy about the job you are in, you will find yourself complaining a lot to family, friends and anybody who will listen just how bad your job is. It might feel good at the time to let off steam but in the long term it will just “take your mental strength.”
3. You don’t enjoy social events with colleagues
Whether it’s a work incentive or lunch with colleagues – if you are avoiding socialising with co-workers during work hours or in your own time, because you feel it’s too exhausting, this shows that you are unhappy in your job. We all enjoy ‘me time’ but you should still make effort to socialise with others you work with.
4. Your negative thoughts about work seem exaggerated
When you have a low outlook on your job it can become easy to over exaggerate negative thoughts such as ‘I’ll never get a promotion’ as your inner monologue can weigh you down.
5. You don’t noticed the good perks about your job
When you are feeling down about something it’s easy to take the outlook of the glass is half empty.
You could have 4 great things happen in one day – but as you are so low about the job you are in - you will only focus on the 1 negative that could have happened. It becomes easy to overlook the positives.
6. Your physical health isn’t great
A common yet serious mood disorder – depression – causes serious symptoms that can last over 2 weeks such as: stomach pain, headaches, and you may become more immune to cold and sickness.
7. You never want to get out of bed in the morning
If you don’t want to go to work, then you aren’t going to want to get out of bed in the morning. As it’s hard to see the day in, if work is not how you want to be spending it.
8. You are irritable
If you find you are snapping a lot at colleagues, about minor things such as the office phone going, or asking for an update this is a sign that your patience is wearing thin.
9. You take a sick day – as you don’t want to go in to the office
It makes sense that you are going to want to call in sick if your job is the cause of your physical / mental health.
10. You are no longer fazed about your work performance
If you no longer want to participate in your job, you aren’t organised and you are coming across as sloppy – these are all signs that you have lost interest in your job.
All of these signs of feeling anxious are not healthy physically or mentally.
