Founded in 1943, the Royal Windsor Horse Show was a welcome distraction from the war, attended by King George VI.
Today, the Royal Horse Show maintains its strong connection with the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh have each previously competed and the Queen still often enters her own horses for the event.
Events include show-jumping, carriage racing, dressage and polo and attract the A-Z of British aristocracy to compete or simply to watch.
In the evening, Windsor castle will be floodlit, creating a wonderfully grandiose backdrop to the competition.
Events at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in London finish in style with a superb firework display above the castle's turrets.
