Wigtown Show 2015 went ahead as planned and a few heavy rain showers didn't deter thousands of people from enjoying a great day out.
The committee thank everyone who came along and supported the hundreds of exhibitors both trade and stock, without whom the show just would not be possible.
There were hundreds of animals on show and the largest Poultry Show in South West Scotland was once again a popular marquee. The Sheep Show drew a great crowd at each performance and the food and craft marquees had a steady flow of visitors all day long.
The afternoon main ring entertaiment started a bit later than planned due to a heavy rain shower which delayed the Champion of Champions. However it was well worth the wait for the Ayrshire cow "Colfin Oleria 7" from A & W.A. McWilliam as she was judged by Mr Dennis Gall to be the winner of the sought-after Craig Cup.
The grand parade and trophy presentation followed two special presentations - RHASS Long Service Awards were presented to Mr Robert McKnight for 31 years continuous service at Culscadden Farm and Mr James Blain for 30 years at Drumneil. There were also tokens of appreciation from the Society Chairman to Mr Hugh Ramsay MBE and Mr Hugh Paterson, for many decades of supporting and showing livestock at Wigtown Show.
A terrific musical display on horseback from our local Galloway Pony Club members got the afternoon's entertainment underway. It was followed by a noisy and enthusiastic Tug o'War competition organised by Machars Young Farmers. Then grace and glamour came into the ring in the form of the Heavy Horse Stud Cart competition before The Stannage Stunt Team showed off a variety of skills and tricks. The afternoon was rounded off by the Heavy Horse Pairs Driving class.
A variety of photographs from around the showfield were taken by Morgan Images and equestrian photographs were taken by Sinclair Photography. Just click on either of the company names to view their albums and purchase online.
