Cereals Live 2020 Q&A Edition 'By Farmers for Farmers'
It has been a challenging few years for arable businesses which is why Cereals LIVE is bringing you inspiration and advice from other arable farmers across the country.
Four months ago, the Cereals team brought the UK's leading technical event for the arable industry online due to COVID-19. To date, Cereals LIVE content has been accessed by 19,564 attendees from 114 countries, with content still available on-demand and opportunity to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD points) on the Cereals website. Cereals LIVE was an overwhelming success, with the top seminar attended by over 800 people.
Because the schedule was fully packed, the 90+ moderators, speakers and panellists did not have time to answer the 568 questions asked by attendees over the two days. To give the questions the time and consideration that they deserve, we are hosting Cereals LIVE: The Q&A Edition on 5 November 2020. The Q&A Edition will host a day of webinars 'by farmers for farmers', offering visitors an interactive and relaxed environment with the opportunity to bring up new queries and to share ideas and concerns with others within the farming industry.
Cereals LIVE: Q&A Edition will answer essential questions raised at June's event, concerning hot topics relevant to current industry challenges, news and updates. Topics for the Q&A Edition will include; 'New era, new challenges, new opportunities', 'A healthier environment: A healthier bottom line', 'Sustainable crop management' and 'New tools for a new era.'
'New era, new challenges, new opportunities'
The live webinar will focus on questions around what impact Coronavirus, Brexit and new Government incentives for public goods will have on UK arable farming businesses. Arable farmers will address how they are adjusting their businesses to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead on an increasingly competitive, and environmentally focussed, global market.
'A healthier environment: A healthier bottom line'
This webinar will focus on questions around how farmers are adapting their businesses to reduce costs of production and increase profitability by improving the health of their soils, boosting natural capital and sequestering carbon.
'Sustainable crop management'
Farmers are already adjusting their systems to cope with grass weeds and chemical resistance – but with a changing climate is delayed drilling becoming too great a risk? We look at how data-based decisions can help combat pests, weeds and diseases and hear from farmers who've adopted alternative approaches.
'New tools for a new era'
This webinar will focus on questions around what tools and technology are needed to manage arable businesses better. Do you believe research is being carried out in the areas which will return the most value to you? This is an opportunity for attendees to influence, and quiz, digital and arable technology experts about what tools are being used and developed to improve productivity.
Cereals LIVE: Q&A Edition will kickstart Cereals Support, a free service that offers advice and assistance for arable farmers during this trying time. It will consist of a monthly webinar series, focusing on one specific theme around farming, ie finance, legal, marketing, mental health, equipment and agronomy sectors.
The Cereals team will be working with the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), farming's oldest and largest charity – as well as the longstanding official charity partner of the event – on the first project of Cereals Support, which is associated with mental health. RABI is launching a new online wellbeing platform on Monday 19 October, in partnership with a specialist online mental health provider. Two new websites, (one targeting younger members of the farming community aged 11-17 and a separate adult platform) will deliver farmer-friendly content that addresses industry-specific challenges and one-to-one counselling support via a team of qualified professionals. The service is free to use and confidential.
