Assistant Berry Farm Manager
Reporting to: Farm Manager
The Company: One of the UK’s largest, independent Berry companies specialising in the production of Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries.

Manage the overall day to day operation of the farm.
Strive to live to company’s values.
Work with the whole farm team to drive H&S forward to ensure the best safety.
Work closely with the Farm Manager to understand and deliver the farm’s P&L, cascading the key numbers to your Line Managers to ensure all informed and gain buy in to the numbers with clear plans on how to deliver them.
Along with the Farm Manager plan the next season’s crop plan to include planting dates by field and plant types to enable the desired crop profiles for customers to be achieved.
Ensure all plant material is ordered and confirmed in a timely manner to avoid disappointment.
Visit plant propagators to ensure plants reach specification and develop new technical ideas through discussion and information sharing.
Work with Farm Manager, Office Administrators, Line Managers and HR to get the right people plan in place to ensure the best workforce.
Put a succession plan in place by department to ensure a pipeline of required talent.
Work with the Purchase Manager to ensure all needed raw materials are ordered at the appropriate time, desired quality and competitively priced.
Plan work days, weeks and monthly season plan with Farm Manager and Line Managers, communicate to the wider team and then implement.
Oversee all agronomics to ensure the growing strategy follows agreed plans to realise yield, quality and crop timings.
Mentor and coach Line Managers to better enable them to realise their full potential.
Work with Line Managers, Farm Manager and COO to drive best practise and a culture of continuous improvement.
Work with farm team to ensure the right growing data is created to enable the correct growing strategy.
Work with the commercial and technical teams to play your part in bring new varieties to market.
Work with the technical team to implement a whole farm environmental plan.
Implement the set-up of new crop systems as they come forward.
Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:
3 years’ minimum experience in crop production (veg, salads, berries).
Significant experience of managing people in a farming environment.
Experience of forecasting weekly crop yields.
Computer literate – proficient in the use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Agronomic training desirable.
Passionate about farming.
Genuine desire to progress within a long-term opportunity.
Able to perform well under pressure.
Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Must have a positive can-do attitude.
Highly competitive salary depending upon experience.
