Assistant Farm Manager
Location: East Midlands

The Company: Fantastic family farming business specialising in the production of leafy salad crops.

The Industry: Agriculture, Farming, Fresh Produce

The Purpose of the Job: Working closely with the Managing Director this role will be responsible for supporting farming operations and the day to day running of the farm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a range of tractor operations including but not limited to; cultivation, bed forming, fertilising, drilling, spraying, mowing and irrigation.

  • To carry out all crop spraying in a safe and precise manner in accordance with UK legislation and in line with business requirements. Ensuring this is completed timely and when conditions are suitable for maximum efficacy and minimal wastage/harm to environment.

  • Ensure all data and records are fully completed and maintained accurately as requested.

  • Carry out regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment used and general farm equipment and assets.

  • Becoming involved in the agronomy and working with the MD and Agronomist to improve crop quality, yield and performance.

  • To monitor, record, analyse business costings and expenses and to set targets and reduce production unit costs whilst improving profitability and maintaining crop quality. To be able to report this information back to the managing director on a regular basis.

  • To liaise with seed companies and business stakeholders on crop varieties and to organise and manage crop trials and development work.

  • To manage seed, chemical, fertiliser and fuel stocks and to oversee orders relative to this.

  • To complete irrigation operations as and when required.

  • To maintain and oversee the water treatment units used during irrigation process and to maintain the records involved within all irrigation processes.

  • Carry out building and machinery maintenance and fabrications as and when needed.

  • Carry out any repairs/maintenance as required.

  • Ensure all field staff are following and adhering to all food and health and safety standards.

  • Carry out any other task as required.

  • To work in a safe and effective manner.

  • To adhere to all aspects of health and safety.

  • To have a focus on efficiency and constantly look at ways of improving systems.

  • To be flexible and committed to ensuring the demands of the crop are met.

  • To focus and consider all aspects of food safety and hygiene at all times.

  • To consider any negative impact on the natural environment and look to enhance nature.

  • To work in a tidy and clean manner at all times.

Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience growing leafy salads.

  • PA1 and PA2.

  • Seeking an exciting long-term opportunity.

  • Loves to learn.

  • Team player.

  • Positive can-do attitude.
