​Assistant Herdsperson / Stockperson x 2 (Could suit a couple)

AJ & ES Maltby, Langport, Somerset

Dairy Farm on the Somerset Levels have two vacant positions. Could suit a couple or two separate people.

We are looking for two reliable people to join our team. Prior practical farming experience is needed. You need to have a good eye for detail, a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene and need to be able to work alone or as part of a team.

Our Herd Manager is Polish and has been with us for 14 years. We have employed EU Nationals for over 20 years and would welcome applications from anyone who has UK Settlement Status together with the necessary and correct paperwork and wishes to return to the UK.

We are currently milking 230 cross bred’s on a grass-based system. The milk produced is sold to farm house cheesemakers. All year-round calving. We have a small flock of pedigree sheep and are actively involved in environmental and diversification schemes. There is a small amount of arable and a few beef animals.

Hours: Six days a week and weekend work. One day off a week and one long weekend per month + statutory holidays.

Salary: from £17,700 - £24,000 per annum, according to age and experience + fully furnished accommodation for each position, with gas, electric, water and super-fast broadband.

The job includes, but is not limited to:

Assisting Herd Manager

  • Relief Milking

  • Assisting in the Parlour

  • Collecting cows from field for milking

  • Milk recording

  • Washing down and cleaning out of parlour and dairy

Rearing of Youngstock

  • Feeding

  • Vaccinations

  • Castration

  • De-budding

  • Tagging

An interest in breeding is actively encouraged.

TMR rationing

Assisting with vet visits

Help with routine TB testing

Dry cow checking

Assisting with calving when necessary

Assisting with small flock of Pedigree Sheep when necessary.
