Automation Engineer

Location of the Job: West Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Birmingham and surrounding areas.

The Company: Our client is a specialist Dairy / Milking / Robotic Equipment provider.

The Industry: Dairy Machinery, Milking Machinery, Robotic Machinery, Dairy Equipment, Milking Equipment, Robotic Equipment.

The Job Role details:
As a key team member within Group Research & Development, the Automation Engineer has a key role in the organisation. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks such as the development of the specification of components and systems used within the milking equipment, striving to achieve class leading performance for the business.

Key Responsibilities:
You will:

  • Manage the creation of automation solutions to support the progression of New Product Development, from concept to implementation.

  • Manage the resolution of product issues, with a drive to improve reliability, performance and cost optimisation.

  • Analyse issues to achieve robust root cause.

  • Create technical drawings in AutoCAD/Inventor and design specifications, for automation elements, including electrical and pneumatic schematics.

  • Co-ordinate the design with other departments within the business including all internal departments, external development partners and suppliers.

  • Lead prototyping, in-house testing, field testing and compliance testing.

  • Ensure all solutions are designed for manufacture.

  • Ensure all design solutions are compliant with all relevant standards.

  • Prepare and execute validation plans for design solutions.

  • Prepare Engineering change documentation.

  • Actively participate in R&D projects, closely work with R&D colleagues in different locations.

  • Prepare documentation required to complete the technical file for all designs prepared.

  • Provide expert Engineering support and mentor colleagues.

  • Liaise and provide technical direction to other departments including Field Support Centre, Operations and Purchasing.

  • Work to deadlines while ensure high quality of results delivered.

  • Have strong and effective communication, interpersonal & listening skills.

  • Able to work independently, preferably without supervision, but as part of the team.

  • Creative & inquisitive; out of the box thinker.

  • Consulting & service attitude; a humble, but resolute behaviour.

  • Intrinsically motivated; eager to learn.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:
You will have / be:

  • Experience working on Automation equipment / machinery.

  • Experience on the design implementation side – not only design concept side.

  • Good understanding of PLCs / control systems / servo motors / HMI.

  • 5-10 years of proven experience in a similar role.

Additional Information:

  • This is a permanent full-time position.

  • 37.5 weekly working hours.

  • Monday – Wednesday 08:00 to 17:00 (onsite).

  • Thursday 08:00 to 16:30 (onsite).

  • Friday 08:00 to 12:00 (working from home).

  • Working on EAP System.

Salary package: A basic salary of £36,000 - £42,000 depending on experience.
