Crop Manager

The Company:
Fantastic family-owned farming business, highly regarded for growing and packing the highest quality speciality vegetables which are supplied to UK’s leading supermarkets and wholesale.

The Role: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Crop Manager to join a busy team, reporting into the Farm Manager and Directors.

Key Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Farm Manager to:

  • Plan planting and harvest activities, organise operations and help in maintaining produce quality.

  • Provide accurate forecasting on crop availability and labour demand and availability to the wider business.

  • Plan the next season’s crops including rotations, planting dates by field and plant types to enable the desired crop profiles for customers to be achieved.

  • Plan the work to be carried out on a daily basis and by week and ensure these plans are implemented and any last-minute changes due to weather, etc, are worked around.

  • Ensure all plant material is ordered and confirmed in a timely manner to avoid disappointment or unnecessary delays.

  • Liaise with plant propagator to ensure plants reach specification and develop new technical ideas through discussion and information sharing.

  • Work with all members of the team to ensure information is fed back in a timely manner, paperwork is completed accurately, and communication is clear.

  • Work to capture the correct growing data from the crops, collate and utilise to provide valuable information for the business.

  • Be involved in the agronomy side of things to ensure the growing strategy follows agreed plans to realise yield, quality and crop timings.

  • Work with the technical team to implement a whole farm environmental plan.

  • Proactively drive improvement including through increased efficiency and new approaches such as automation.

Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • From an agricultural background with experience in crop production.

  • Experience of managing people in a farming environment.

  • Experience of forecasting weekly crop yields.

  • Computer literate – proficient in the use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Must be passionate about farming.

  • Genuine desire to progress within a long-term opportunity.

  • Resilient and able to perform well under pressure.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must have a positive can-do attitude.

  • Team player.

  • BASIS and FACTS qualified (desirable but not a pre-requisite).

  • Full driving licence.

  • Must be able to communicate in a clear and effective manner at all levels and possess the ability to develop and maintain good relationships.
    You must be flexible to work extra hours as the business and season dictates.

Competitive salary depending upon experience.
