Electrical Design Engineer

Location of the Job: West Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Birmingham and surrounding areas.

The Company: Our client is a specialist Dairy / Milking / Robotic Equipment provider.

The Industry: Dairy Machinery, Milking Machinery, Robotic Machinery, Dairy Equipment, Milking Equipment, Robotic Equipment.

The Job Role details:
As a key team member within the Group R&D team, the Electrical Design Engineer has a key role in the organisation. You, as the Electrical Design Engineer will be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for a wide range of tasks such as the product development of the specification of components and systems used within the milking equipment, striving to achieve class leading performance.

Key Responsibilities:
You will:

  • Manage resolution of product issues, with a drive to improve reliability, performance and cost optimisation.

  • Co-ordination and management of issues and small projects, engaging with other departments to successfully deliver products to production.

  • Analyse issues to achieve robust root cause.

  • Create technical drawings in AutoCAD / Inventor and design specifications, for automation elements, including electrical and pneumatic schematics.

  • Co-ordinate the design with other departments including all relevant internal departments, external development partners and suppliers.

  • Lead prototyping, in-house testing, field testing and compliance testing.

  • Responsible for control panel electrical circuit design and safety, to comply with IEC / UL.

  • Maintain PLC, HMI and selection of components to satisfy specification (PLC, Sensors, Circuit breakers, Relays, indicators etc for control panel design).

  • Creation and maintenance of Pneumatic circuit diagrams, and Electrical schematics diagrams.

  • Ensure all solutions are designed for manufacture.

  • Ensure all design solutions are compliant with all relevant standards.

  • Prepare and execute validation plans for design solutions.

  • Prepare Engineering change documentation.

  • Actively participate in R&D projects, closely work with R&D colleagues in different locations.

  • Prepare documentation required to complete the technical file for all designs prepared.

  • Provide expert engineering support and mentor colleagues.

  • Liaise and provide technical direction to other departments including Field Support Centre, Operations and Purchasing.

  • Equipped with strong and effective communication, interpersonal & listening skills.

  • Have a positive, constructive attitude radiating energy and drive to accomplish goals & targets.

  • Be a self-starter; Able to work independently, preferably without supervision, but as part of the team.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:
You will have / be:

  • Able to identify route cause of issues.

  • Experience of preparing design specifications.

  • Able to validate issues – able to prepare and execute a robust validation plan, to ensure that the solution can be released to series build with minimal risk.

  • A series production background – or understanding of requirements of series production if from background of capital equipment, batch built equipment.

  • Volume manufacturing experience.

  • Strong on design and specification creation.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an Electrical Design Engineer role.

Additional Information:

  • This is a permanent full-time position.

  • 37.5 weekly working hours.

  • Monday – Wednesday 08:00 to 17:00 (onsite).

  • Thursday 08:00 to 16:30 (onsite).

  • Friday 08:00 to 12:00 (working from home).

  • Working on EAP System.

Salary package: A basic salary of £28,000 - £36,000 per year depending on experience.
