Farm Manager – Alderney – Channel Islands

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated individual, or couple, to assist with running the Island of Alderney’s only dairy farm and processing dairy.
Family run business with a small guernsey dairy cow herd comprising of approximately 35 milking cows, 30 purebred guernsey youngstock and 180 head of beef cattle.
At present the herd are grazed 365 days a year only being housed for inclement weather when necessary and the pastures are slowly being moved onto a regenerative policy with no ploughing or mass cultivations.
The position will best suit a couple (but not compulsory) with an ambitious outlook and a strong level of competency of both practical ad technical work and be willing to partake in all aspects of the farming business.
Duties will include:
Milking
General Stock duties
Grazing and Grassland Management
Dairy duties
Ideally qualified in artificial insemination
You must be:
Able to work alone and as part of a family team
Making managerial decisions when necessary
Self-motivated with a flexible approach to peak season workload and adaptable to changes in the workloads and priorities
Good financial planning skills, performance monitoring and a keenness to incorporate new farming practices
