Farm Project Manager / Head Grower

Location: Yorkshire

The team are incredibly passionate about what they do and have many years of experience, teaching and working in a variety of environments, who have seen first-hand the therapeutic effects of nature-based interventions.

The Industry: Agriculture, Horticulture, Farming, Animal Care, Teaching

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate farm machinery including tractor, topper, cutter, flailer and baler.

  • Carry out maintenance on farm machinery.

  • Plan for and carry out farm maintenance, farm jobs and animal husbandry.

  • Care for livestock including pigs, sheep, sheep dogs and possibly cattle.

  • Plan for, organise and maintain a workshop with reasonable adjustments for the students.

  • Fence, weld, and dry stone walling, hedge laying, tree felling and rudimentary plumbing.

  • Setting up and planning for selling vegetable boxes (preferably through membership scheme).

  • Planning, rotation and irrigation, harvesting and storing.

  • Manage project budget.

Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tractor/chainsaw/brushcutter licence.

  • Ability to keep accurate records for livestock.

  • Experienced horticulturalist (market garden crops).

  • Experience with woodwork and/or metalwork.

  • Experience in setting up and planning for market garden.

  • Experience in managing a project budget.

  • Degree in relevant area (could be sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences as well as agriculture, veterinarian or horticulture).

  • Teaching qualification would be desirable or willing to work towards a teaching qualification.

  • Experience of working with a client group that includes adults and young people with learning and physical disabilities, autism and mental health issues.

  • Ability to plan, organise and involve our students in the farm project management.

  • Friendly and professional conduct that reflects values (passionate and committed).

  • Commitment to equality and diversity principles.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Physical strength and stamina.

  • Full clean driving licence.

  • Commitment to sustainability/regenerative agriculture/permaculture/agroecology.

The Package: £20K - £30K DOE
