Farm Project Manager - Wetherby

Living Potential Care Farming (LPFC) are a social enterprise based just outside Wetherby, working with adults with learning disabilities and additional needs – our members. We are based on a 500 acre working farm though we work on only a small part of this area for our project. That project is to provide a supportive, therapeutic environment and a programme of learning, development and activities that:

  • Help our members to develop their skills, confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing

  • Promote a sense of community across our members, volunteers, staff and wider local community

  • Promote equality and diversity for all

  • Reflect our commitment to being environmentally friendly and sustainable

As we expand, we now have an exciting full time opportunity for a Farm Project Manager. This hybrid role combines responsibility for all areas of farm maintenance (c. 3 days) with the opportunity to deliver activities and learning to our members (c. 2 days.) The job will be Monday to Friday with some weekend work on a rota basis.

Key areas of accountability will be:

  • Leading the planning, organisation and supervision of farm maintenance activities

  • Undertaking all aspects of farm maintenance and animal husbandry within the remit of LPFC activities

  • Delivering learning, work or educational activities in line with the agreed programme or qualification

  • Helping to create a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment for our members

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Planning and carrying out farm maintenance and animal husbandry activities

  • Principles and standard practices of trades as they apply to farm construction, maintenance, and repair eg carpentry, basic water plumbing, painting, fencing and irrigation work

  • Operation and minor maintenance of farm machinery including tractors, toppers, chainsaws and hand power tools

  • Working with small animal livestock and small horticultural crops

  • Delivering learning activities or skills instruction

Other requirements are that you need:

  • physical stamina and strength as the job is hands on and primarily based outdoors – all year round!

  • to enjoy interacting with and supporting those with learning disabilities and additional needs

  • strong organisational abilities

  • resilience, patience and the ability to stay calm in pressured situations

  • a full, clean driving license

A full job description and person specification is available on request and we would love to show you around our farm environment if you think this might be the right job for you.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from communities not well represented in farming and outdoor learning.

We offer:

  • a good remuneration package for the right person (£25,000 - £27,000)

  • 24 days holiday as well as bank holidays

  • pension contributions

  • a wonderful place to work and make an impact, contributing to our long term vision

Deadline: 30/09/2021.

Interviews to be confirmed.
