Dairy Herd Manager

Location of the Job: South West.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Paying £35,000 basic salary depending on experience.

  • Attractive three-bedroom house, with double garage, located on farm in a village with a variety of clubs, pre-school, primary school, village hall, pub, and recreation ground.

  • Nearest town is 4 miles away.

  • Cost of accommodation: £250 per year.

  • Distance from shops and other amenities: 4 miles.

Additional information:

  • This is a permanent full-time position.

  • 55-60 hours per week.

About The Company:

A specialist mixed organic farm based in the South West, who farm almost 900 dairy cows on multiple dairies and rear all own replacements based over 2,500 acres.

The Job Role Details:

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Dairy Herd Manager reporting directly to the Farming Manager. You will be responsible for looking after a 300-cow milking herd and young stock, as well as leading a team of up to 4 employees plus relief workers.

Key Responsibilities:
You will…

  • Be responsible for milking, herd health and record keeping.

  • Ensure the herd stays compliant in meeting the organic and farm assurance standards.

  • Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met.

  • Be confident in managing and motivating the farm team of 4 members of staff, through good leadership and example-setting.

  • Maintain high standards for the farm and your team.

  • Be competent in AI, foot trimming and operating farm vehicles (including telehandler).

  • Be computer literate with a sound knowledge of herd computer-based herd records. Knowledge of Uniform Agri would be an advantage.

  • Keen eye for grassland management.
