The Job Role: This role requires a strong communicator with excellent facilitation skills who is also able to establish credibility amongst the Dairy industry in Scotland. Working to key operational and business plan targets, this role also plays a huge part in delivering a world class knowledge and information delivery service to farmers, therefore specialist agriculture experience is essential.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Deliver a range of activities covering Knowledge Transfer and Knowledge Exchange (including conferences, workshops, meetings, webinars and podcasts) within Dairy ensuring that expertise and engagement is maintained and enhanced
  • Contribute to the wider delivery of high-quality effective knowledge exchange services available to al levy payers in the region.
  • Deliver KE activity for a given region within the budget allocated and provide accurate and appropriate accountability to the Senior Manager KE as required.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and reporting of KPI's for the KE activity within the region to that sector.
  • Provide levy payer feedback to the wider KE and research function which will contribute to the delivery of the sector priorities and KE requirements.
  • Follow guidelines to deliver effective engagement with levy payers and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with the sector KE team colleagues to ensure KE materials are proactively and positively delivered to levy payers and stakeholders for a given sector.
  • Positively embrace cross sector working opportunities to ensure efficiencies and sharing of best practice are delivered.
  • Contribute to feedback mechanisms of levy payer facing activity which inform technical priorities and strategy.
  • Communicate the benefits of our work clearly to industry, liaising across the sector team as appropriate.
  • Where directed by the Senior Manager KE provide industry representation E.G to Defra committees, industry groups.
  • Where directed by the Senior Manager KE contribute to stakeholder / supply chain engagement on technical issues at a regional level and to regional activity with stakeholders via the KE teams.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external technical / knowledge transfer and associated stakeholders / professionals.
  • Take an active and constructive role in Dairy KE team meetings and wider staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Deliver KT information to promote sector and products and services within the region.
  • A field based role that will be required to travel and work across the KE region.
  • Use the KE Excellence programme to coordinate and deliver Dairy KE across the region
  • Be a local contact point to engage with relevant Dairy farmers in the region.
  • Identify the needs of relevant dairy farmers in the region.
  • Coordinate KE delivery across the region that targets relevant dairy farmers.
  • Build relationships with appropriate associated and allied industries that serve farmers.
  • Use tools and services to highlight the importance of cost control.
  • Use the Farm Excellence Platform to deliver highly regarded KE activity and events and utilising innovative approaches to engage with farmers.
  • Record all key interactions on the CRM.
  • Liaise with Science team colleagues to provide insight and help deliver regional R&D activity.
  • Promote benchmarking as a key business management tool, and take opportunities to improve business resilience and professionalism in GB Dairy farming
  • Act as a point of contact for Dairy in the region with relevant trade and producer groups such as NFU, or milk processors.
  • Contribute to reviews of specific knowledge transfer activities, products and services and recommend actions to enhance effectiveness where appropriate.
  • Actively participate in actions that foster a collaborative culture within the team and the corporate vision.
  • Provide tactical leadership for designated audiences.
  • Provide input and feedback to the wider Dairy team on the views of farmers
  • The post holder may be required to undertake other duties assigned by the line manager as appropriate.

Personal specification

  • Knowledgeable in knowledge transfer sector.
  • Evidence of significant practical experience delivering Technical information
  • Experience of developing and delivering bespoke KE events
  • Highly skilled facilitator
  • Can demonstrate the development and use of creative and innovative KE approaches
  • Excellent farmer communication skills
  • Experience of successfully interacting with dairy farmers
  • Respected across the industry for running highly regarded meetings
  • A detailed understanding of the British dairy industry
  • A thorough understanding of the 'best in class' approaches and latest techniques employed by dairy farms across key international milk fields
