Lairage Manager - Telford, Shropshire
Pickstock Telford has an exciting opportunity to join our Lairage, you will be responsible for animal welfare and health and safety, hygiene and operational matters. You will also be responsible for supervising a small team and be a key contact with the delivery of livestock to the site, maintaining daily throughput, and ensuring our robust policies and procedures are met and maintained.
Principal Objectives
· Actively promote and ensure Animal Welfare is adhered to at all times
· Ensure that the unloading of livestock is undertaken by the required Animal Welfare required standard
· Ensure that the movement of cattle within the lairage is completed in a safe and calm manner without causing stress to the cattle
· Complete all relevant paperwork and undertake daily audits when required
· Adhere to Company’s hygiene practices & animal welfare procedures
· Comply with health & safety rules, to prevent / minimise the risk of accidents
· Communicate to your team, vets, drivers and line manager and report any issues or concerns
· Ensure feed / bedding stock is kept up
· Complete/ delegate daily start up checks on vehicles and machinery within the lairage.
· To actively comply with all Company employment policies and procedures
· Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
· Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them
· Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments etc
· Keeping a high standard of 5S throughout the lairage
· Ensure general upkeep of area and equipment liaising with maintenance as a when required
Key Attributes, Knowledge & Skills
Appropriate experience of operating in a similar role
Hold an animal welfare licence (desirable not essential)
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Practical approach to problem solving
Works well under pressure, supporting and encouraging the team
