Outdoor Plants Supervisor

An opportunity has arisen at Stewarts Christchurch to join our Outdoor Plants team on a full time basis, assisting the Buyer/Manager in the running of the outdoor plants department.

Horticultural knowledge is important and experience in a retail environment on a supervisory level is essential. Candidates will have a hands-on approach but the role will also include the need for computer knowledge due to internal systems used for orders and stock. Good communication and team working skills are required, as is the desire to deliver a high level of customer service. Please note that some heavy lifting will be involved as this is a physically demanding environment. A forklift licence is ideal but not essential.

Responsibilities;

Manage the smooth running of the department in the Manager’s absence ▪ Manage the performance and deployment of staff within the department ▪ Identify and deal with all issues relating to stock, the team and customers. ▪ Identify opportunities to increase sales within the department and across the centre ▪ Ensure display presentation, pricing and signage are inspirational and to our standards ▪ Assist with stocktake, manage stock turnover, markdowns and wastage within your department ▪ Prioritise tasks and meet deadlines ▪ Contribute to the smooth running of events and marketing projects ▪ Maintain fixtures, fittings, equipment and materials relevant to your department ▪ Report Security and Health and Safety issues.

Key Tasks;

Authorise and process invoices efficiently in the Manager's absence ▪ Contribute to the planning of space and seasonal changes within the department ▪ Implement planned changes within your department ▪ Walk your whole department including storage areas daily and maintain a personal presence on the shop floor ▪ Ensure stock levels are kept at the correct level for the season ▪ Get involved with interviewing and recruitment of the right people ▪ Authorise payroll and holidays in line with staff rotas and budgets ▪ Engage with customers and encourage feedback ▪ Act as Duty manager and key-holder for the business when required.

The position involves working an average of 39 hours per week Mondays to Fridays, and alternate weekends (non-negotiable) with a fixed day off during the week.

Hours of work are; 9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m weekdays and Saturdays, and 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m on Sundays.

It will also include working late nights on Thursdays until 8:00 p.m on a rota basis (once we are back open on Thursday evenings) and assisting at Company events as and when required.
