Product Technician
Location: West Midlands

The Company: Fresh Fruit Suppliers and Importers.

The Industry: Food, Fresh Produce, Transport, Logistics, Management

Purpose of the Job: 

  • To effectively manage Salad product quality and availability within the packing operation.

  • To maintain and manage routine daily relationships with UK Operational, Planning & Technical teams.

  • To coordinate all product supply and quality information between UK and European offices.

Role Responsibilities:
Intake:

  • Overview the Intake inspection process, setting standards, providing support where necessary and ensuring accuracy of reports for both supplier’ reporting & operational planning.

  • Provide an authoritative second opinion on borderline arrivals or on request.

  • Review, amend and send reports to suppliers (within agreed timescales) adding commentary and supporting evidence as necessary.

  • Ensure clear communication of quality metrics to BUM and QPI teams in Europe adding commentary and supporting evidence as necessary.

Reinspection:

  • Follow the agreed re-inspection schedule ensuring all P/O’s are re-inspected on-time and in full.

  • Send immediate updates to suppliers and internally when changes are made to product status or losses anticipated.

  • Adjust re-inspection timescales as necessary for the time of year & product quality of the consignment.

  • Manage stocks to ensure correct rotation & allocation for specific products and customers, providing clear instructions for Production teams.

  • Propose stock re-allocation where necessary to alternative customers, market, staff sales or dump.

  • Send immediate update to suppliers and internally when changes are made to product status or losses anticipated.

Stock Allocation:

  • Drive product rotation & appropriate stock usage.

  • Participate in the development of a formal stock allocation system.

  • Conduct daily physical stock count to ensure actual stocks match to NAV data.

  • Liaise with the Operations & Planning teams to ensure all specific packing and remedial work planned for the following day is set up correctly.

Packhouse:

  • Set and monitor Packhouse standards.

  • Contact Suppliers following in the event of unexpected packhouse or outload quality issues.

  • Provide guidance to the packhouse in the event of quality issues acting in the best interests of all parties.

  • Follow up on all adverse customer quality issues in conjunction with the Technical & QA teams.

  • Investigate discrepancies between QA/re-inspection/packhouse defect levels.

  • Review and report product packing from loose to ensure accurate stock usage.

  • Provide documentary evidence in the event of a dispute.

Remedial/Waste:

  • Daily review and prioritisation of remedial stock with a view on cost/benefit.

  • Daily review of waste and allocation to alternative markets where possible.

  • In general, try to ensure the best return for all remedial/waste stock.

General:

  • Communicate as necessary with Technical teams in source countries; understanding potential source issues and agree plan to correct on arrival as required.

  • Attend Daily 8.30am meeting, highlighting key issues and confirming remedial plans as required.

  • Attend any internal meeting to discuss on going supply / commercial / technical issues.

  • Attend weekly QPI meeting with European teams to discuss on going issues, providing full product updates as required.

  • Provide ad hoc support to Business Unit Manager as required.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar role - essential.

  • Fresh produce experience is a must.

  • Confident communicator and able to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Must be willing to travel overseas (once the current restrictions allow) for training in Europe.

The Package:
Salary depending on experience.

Additional Information:
Holidays: 20 + 8 days bank holidays
Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm with some flexibility
