Storage Assistant and General Farm Worker

Help required from July-November, to assist with the storage operations of 8000t of grain and 8000t of potatoes in Staffordshire.
W. B Daw and Son are a large family farming business producing potatoes and cereals as well as livestock based near Rugeley, Staffordshire. We cover 2,400 acres of combinable crops, growing wheat, oats, oilseed rape, barley and beans and grow 500 acres of potatoes for the processing market. As well as arable we have a suckler beef enterprise, breeding ewes and bed and breakfast pigs. A biomass plant running on straw provides heat for 4 grain driers. The business operates from 2 main sites with accommodation available in between. Modern John Deere and Fendt tractors are used on the farm with JCB telehandlers and potatoes are harvested with a 4-row self-propelled.
We aim to produce high quality crops for well-established customers such as Walkers, McCains, Mcdonalds, Warburtons, Quaker and Waitrose on long term contracts. Over 1000 acres of the land we farm is in HLS and environmental schemes. A wedding enterprise has also been established on one farm and is heated with the biomass plant used for grain drying.
We are looking for a hardworking, motivated individual to work alongside our storage manager to assist in the day to day running of our storage operations. The role is mostly yard based and involves the loading and out-loading of grain and potatoes into store. A range of elevators, conveyors and grading equipment are used with different drying systems and JCB telehandlers. All harvested produce arriving to the stores requires recording and quality control assessments before being placed into store. Weighbridges and recording systems are used on both farms. Graders and cleaners are used with our potato operation and the crop is bulk stored with the use of elevators. Drying floors and continuous flow systems are used for drying grain alongside a cleaning system.

•Operating JCB telehandlers
•Operating telescopic and steering elevators in store
•Running grading and drying systems
•Quality control and data recording
•Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
•Maintenance of stores and machinery
•Tractor driving as required
•Supervising other staff and agency workers
Experience with these crops and the use of telehandlers will be an advantage but further training can be provided, and for the right candidate the potential of a full time position developing within our business. This role could suit someone looking to further their career in the Agriculture Sector.
Accommodation is available as either a shared house with other members of staff or a 1-bedroom flat situated in-between our 2 sites.
This is a rewarding role which requires good attention to detail, time management and co-ordination. Good hourly rates depending on experience and a lot of hours available.
