Telescopic Handler/Tractor Driver
Location: Surrey

Reporting to: Farm Manager

The Company: One of the UK’s largest, independent Berry companies specialising in the production of Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries.

The Industry: Farming, Management, Fresh Produce, Fruit

Purpose of the Role: Responsible for delivery of the day-to-day spray operations at the farm.

Ensuring that tasks are completed at the optimum timing and to a high standard. Adhering to all health and safety requirements of the role and taking responsibility for pre-use checks and maintenance on any machinery and/or equipment used.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety

  • Ensure that all work carried out is completed with the full awareness of you and your colleague’s health and safety.

  • Ensure that RA are adhered to when necessary.

  • Ensure that accurate entries are maintained for spraying records and pre-use checks.

  • Ensure that all documents required for audits are kept up to date on a day to day basis.

  • Be aware of the condition of any spray equipment and/or machinery on farm and report any machinery that does not meet defined standards to your line manager.

  • Ensure that the chemical store is kept tidy and is secured when not in use.

  • Ensure that company products meet safety, legality and quality requirements.

Tractor Driving

  • Driving of tractors and other farm implements.

  • Operating tractors safely and efficiently.

  • Performing inspections of tractors and attachments like graders, rollers, etc., and ensuring they are well-lubricated.

  • Using tractors to transport materials and pull or push agricultural equipment.

  • Operating tractors with laser levelling equipment to prepare fields.

  • Reporting any faults or concerns to the Farm Manager and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Remaining alert while driving and servicing the tractor, and maintaining the appropriate speed limit at all times.

  • Completing minor repairs on tractor and farm equipment.

Equipment and Tractor Maintenance

  • Responsible for pre-use checks and maintenance of tractor equipment and machinery being used.

  • Ensure that all equipment is appropriately washed and cleaned thoroughly at the end of each day.

  • Ensure the security of all machinery and equipment when not in use.

Other duties

  • Understand how each department/site fits into the company structure.

  • Meet key Managers and line staff.

  • Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety regulations as given in company Risk Assessments.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • Clean UK/EU Driving Licence – Essential.

  • Hold a recognised qualification (PA1, PA6, etc.) – Desirable.

  • Previous experience spraying and tractor driving – Desirable.

  • Personal skills required.

  • Flexibility on working hours.

  • Problem solving and prioritising skills.

  • Detail conscious.

  • Safety compliance.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Basic understanding of farm machinery.

  • Represent the company brand at all times and communicate the company values.

Salary depending upon experience.
