Farm Accountant

Salary and Benefits:
Competitive salary - £30,000-£35,000 (pro-rata for part-time)
Flexible hours with potential for additional responsibilities

Additional Information:
This is a fully onsite role.
Flexible for full-time or part-time contracts - minimum 20 hours per week, up to 37 hours.

About the Farm:
A well-established and expanding mixed farming business with both arable and livestock enterprises. The farm produces crops including potatoes and cereals, as well as beef, lamb, and pork. With new farm offices and continued growth, the business is now seeking a skilled Farm Accountant to support financial management and office operations.

Farm Accountant - The Job Role:
As Farm Accountant, you will manage the farm's accounts and administration. Responsibilities include bookkeeping, VAT returns, and financial reporting, as well as supporting general office operations. You will work closely with the farm owners and external accountants to keep the business running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping using Xero
  • Prepare and manage VAT returns
  • Provide general financial and administrative support
  • Assist with management reports and audits when required
  • Liaise with external accountants on financial and compliance matters
  • Keep all records accurate, organised, and up to date

Ideal Person Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience using Xero or similar accounting software
  • Strong bookkeeping and VAT knowledge
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Accountancy qualification (AAT Level 3 or above) desirable but not essential

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in agricultural or rural businesses
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to manage a busy workload
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to a progressive farming business
