The Job Role for the Herdsperson:
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Herdsperson to join a progressive, family-run dairy farm renowned for its high-yielding, well-managed herd. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the milking and feeding of the housed cows, ensuring the highest standards of herd health, welfare, and production are consistently achieved.
Confidence in managing the day's routine after milking is essential, along with the ability to take initiative and support wider farm operations when required. £30,000 - £45,000, Depending on Experience

Key Responsibilities for the Herdsperson:
Take responsibility for the day-to-day milking of the high-yielding herd, working on a twice-daily rota as part of a professional and supportive team.
Uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and stockmanship, ensuring every cow is well cared for and managed to achieve optimum performance.
Assist in all aspects of herd management, including milking, calving, youngstock care, feeding, and health monitoring.
Operate and manage TMR feeding, including safe and efficient use of the feeder wagon.
Monitor herd health proactively, identifying and addressing issues promptly in consultation with the Owner.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date herd records, supporting data-driven decision making.
Work collaboratively with the Owner and wider team to meet agreed farm and herd objectives, contributing to the ongoing professional development of the unit.
Take pride in maintaining a clean, well-organised working environment and equipment.
Candidate Skills and Experience:
Proven experience as a Herdsperson, managing or supporting a medium to large-scale dairy herd with a focus on high-yielding cows and consistent herd performance.
Strong team player with a flexible approach and the ability to work collaboratively within a small, dedicated team.
Practical knowledge of TMR feeding, including ration preparation and competent operation of a feeder wagon.
Experience in AI and/or foot trimming is desirable but not essential.
Familiarity with all-year-round (AYR) calving and confident in calf rearing to high welfare standards.
Competent in dairy tractor operations; a telehandler certificate would be advantageous but is not essential.
Committed to maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to Health & Safety protocols.
Capable of maintaining accurate herd and health records, demonstrating attention to detail and pride in record keeping.
Comfortable using herd management software and other basic IT systems.
Excellent livestock observation and stockmanship skills, with a proactive attitude towards herd health and welfare.
Desirable:
At least 4 years' experience in high output dairy
AI Certification
Foot Trimming Certification
