The Company:
This family-owned dairy farm in Cumbria combines strong traditional farming values with a modern, professional approach. The farm is home to around 600-700 Holstein cows, averaging 11,500 litres per cow per year, milked through brand-new robotic units.
Operating an AYR calving, fully housed system, the farm maintains excellent facilities and a clear focus on cow health, welfare, and efficiency. The family lead by example and foster a supportive, team-based environment where everyone takes pride in their work.
An experienced Herdsperson or Assistant Herdsperson is now sought to join the team and support the Head Herdsperson in achieving high herd performance and welfare standards.
Herdsperson - The Job Role:
This is a varied role involving milking, youngstock care, feeding, and general herd management. The successful applicant will play a key part in maintaining high standards of health, welfare, and production across the herd.

Salary/Package:
£35,000 - £45,000, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities for the Herdsperson:
- Carry out day-to-day milking of high-yielding Holstein cows, twice daily
- Uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and stockmanship
- Assist with herd management including calf rearing, colostrum feeding, debudding, and health monitoring
- Support TMR feeding and general feeding routines (training available if required)
- Maintain accurate herd and health records
- Work collaboratively with the owners and wider team to meet farm and herd objectives
- Maintain a clean, well-organised working environment and equipment
Candidate Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience working with high-yielding dairy herds
- Strong livestock observation and herd health awareness
- Confident milker with good attention to detail and cow flow
- Flexible team player willing to support calf rearing and general stock work
- Tractor and machinery experience desirable; telehandler ticket an advantage
- AI or foot trimming experience beneficial but not essential
- Confident record keeper familiar with basic herd management systems
- Commitment to safe and professional working practices
Desirable:
- Minimum 4 years' experience in high-output dairy herds
- AI or Foot Trimming certification

- Flexible approach to working hours when required
- Full UK Driving Licence essential
