Operations Manager – Seed Potatoes
Location: South-West Scotland

The Company: Fantastic family-owned business specialising in seed potatoes. Due to continued growth and success, my Client now require a highly skilled Operations Manager.


The Role: This is a unique job role where no two days will be the same. If you want to have a real sense of job satisfaction and exciting growth for yourself and the company, this is the opportunity for you.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Report back to head office and initiate the plan of action that has been agreed upon to move the business forward.

  • Coordinate activities that affect operational decisions and business requirements.

  • Responsible for the production and planning of daily operations.

  • Communicates with all relevant employees to ensure delivery times are met.

  • Plan, schedule, and review workload and manpower to make sure targets are being met on a cost-effective basis.

  • Manage the stock control, and check that inventory records are accurate.

  • Ensure the production/packing team has enough time to manufacture/pack and deliver products based on the client's request.

  • Create a detailed schedule based on strict deadlines as most deliveries are next day and made to order items.

  • Communicates any changes in the order or delivery date to relevant parties.

  • Monitor production standards and look for ways to improve efficiency in all processes.

  • Ensure that machinery and equipment is up to standard. Report to head office with ideas of improvements or machinery/infrastructure needing attention.

  • Indicate which materials and services are required for production and packing of orders.

  • Follow up on interruptions to the order.

  • Organise, plan, and implement inventory activity.

  • Confirm that health and safety regulations are being followed.

  • Provide guidance to employees.

  • Interview candidates for new positions within the company as agreed upon with head office.

  • Responsible for all staffing issues.

  • Find new ways for the business to progress using shift patterns and weekends.

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior warehouse and/or managerial experience.

  • Highly organised.

  • Production and planning skills required.

  • Understanding of stock management systems.

  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • IT experience and computer literate; Zoom, Teams, Magento, Google Drive.

  • Leadership skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to engage and motivate others.

  • Drive to achieve results.

  • Understanding of perishable goods and shelf life of products.

  • Spraying and forklift licences desirable.

The Package:
Salary £28K – £36K depending on experience.
