R & D Scientist

Vacancy Reference: 16590 KM

The Company:
A fertiliser manufacturer which supplies fertilisers to the horticulture and amenity market.

Job Role Details:
There is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified chemist/materials scientist to join the technical team within the innovation centre.

Location: Southwest England - Office and Factory Based

Salary: £36,000 - £40,000

Key Responsibilities:
The person chosen for the role will make a significant contribution to our R&D effort to bring novel products to market. Given the specifics of the problem, this will appeal to someone of a problem-solving mindset. The emphasis will be upon skilled literature researching together with putting the findings into practise.

Candidate Requirements:
A solid background in chemistry or material sciences. This person is likely to be a graduate, possibly with MRes. qualification.

A demonstrable skillset in up-to-date literature searching skills using professional platforms.

In addition to the research skills, we need someone who is gifted in applying the findings to practical, real-world application.

It will come as no surprise that the applicant will necessarily also be a problem-solver, and one who is resourceful when converting ideas into practise.

The ideal person will be versatile, able to apply their mind and hands to a variety of short- and longer-term goals.

Although the problems all focus upon the field of specialist fertiliser products it requires a person of a generalist mind-set, able to apply otherwise unrelated concepts to the variety of technical problems that present themselves.

Someone with the appetite for the fast-moving dynamic of a small company and its collaborative spirit would enjoy this role.

A background in product development would be an advantage, as would someone with an interest in biopolymers or sustainable polymer coatings.

Although we are a fertiliser business, prior knowledge of this field is not essential as it is the wider chemistry that matters, providing that it is applicable to a commercial scale.

The successful candidate will work within the supportive framework of the existing team.
