Orchard Construction Assistant - The Job Role Details
You will be responsible for supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of orchards and associated infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Orchard Construction Manager, you will help deliver new developments and planned maintenance efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
The role requires flexibility, strong teamwork, and a willingness to support wider site operations during busy periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Orchard construction, maintenance, and repair across the site
- Support new orchard construction projects and associated infrastructure works
- Assist with installation and maintenance of trellis systems, posts, wires, fencing, and guards
- Support irrigation and water infrastructure installation and repairs where required
- Carry out site preparation and general groundworks as needed
- Monitor performance and progress of tasks and highlight issues to the manager
- Maintain accurate records of works completed, materials used, and inspections
- Support project reporting and updates to the Orchard Construction Manager
- Assist with motivating and supporting colleagues; help with training where appropriate
- Maintain high standards of site presentation, tidiness, and safe working practices
- Carry out daily checks and basic maintenance on tools and equipment
- Report faults, damage, or safety concerns promptly
- Follow all farm health and safety procedures
- Maintain strong environmental and biosecurity standards
Ideal Candidate Skills & Qualifications - You will have / be:
- Experience in construction and/or maintenance (agricultural, horticultural, or general)
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
- Professional, proactive work attitude with good reliability and timekeeping
- Ability to work effectively with others as part of a small team
- Polite manner with good communication skills
- Competent in English
- Right to work in the UK (essential)
Desirable:
- Telehandler certificate or experience
- Tractor driving or agricultural machinery experience
- Experience with fencing, irrigation installation, or trellis systems
- Basic mechanical knowledge and confidence with tools
Working Hours:
Full-time
Seasonal and weather demands may require flexibility and extended hours during peak periods
